We had the Underground River Tour during our 2nd day at Puerto Princesa. We had a long 2.5 hr drive from the city going to Sabang, which is the main entry to the Subterranean National Park. The river was said to be the longest underground river in the world and declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999.
The Underground River experience was worth every penny. The only thing that I didn’t like was the bumpy road travel. It’s an on-the-road body massage for 5 hours. We’re supposed to go to Maquinit Hot Spring after, but then everyone was too tired from the long travel.
It’s a one of a kind experience for the entire family. The sight inside the cave is breath-taking. I can’t help but feel really amazed by the different stone formations inside the cave. It’s just like those you see in discovery channels and science shows. Also, our tour guide was very chatty and funny who likes giving jokes from time to time. Though there are times I feel spooked because it was dark inside and I imagine crocodiles would show up any time. But no, the tour is very safe. No crocodiles according to the tour guide. But he said that the water is deep, almost 8-ft or more. Only the discovered parts of the river are accessible to the tourists.
Palawan Underground River
After the underground river tour, we had a buffet lunch at one of the beaches and they gave us some free time to stroll around. This is to prepare us for another long hour drive back to the city.
It’s almost dinner by the time we arrived the city. I’ve decided to bring them to KaLui Restaurant, one of the must-visit restaurants in the city. I learned about the place from a local TV show. It’s a simple cozy restaurant. And what makes it special too is the concept of barefoot dining. The friendly staff greeted us and asked us to remove our footwear. The shoes and slippers are kept inside small lockers and baskets. And the floors are divinely well-polished, pwede na magsalamin sa sahig. The food is very good too, mostly seafood and vegetables.
